Templeton ( Staff Writer Between 4,000 and 7,000 members of the Church of * Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc., will visit Winston-Salem for nine days beginning Aug. 15 for perhaps the biggest convention in the city's history. Woolfolk, national executive secretary, said in a telephone interview he had pushed for the convention to come to his home state of North Carolina. The last three sites have been Indianapolis, Richmond and Miami Beach. Next year's site is Chicago. The Pentacostal denomination has one church in the city, St. Phillips. The denomination's radio show is heard daily on a local religious-oriented radio station. "We hope to win some new adherents while we are here," said Woolfolk, who lives in Oxford. The church was begun in 1919 by the late Bishop R.C. Lawson in a prayer meeting in a basement in New York City. Through missionary work, it has grown to have 350 churches in 30 states, West Africa, Europe, the West In dies and South America. Bishop William L. Bonneserves as the third presiding apostle to lead the church. Recently, the denomination opened its seventh missior school in Liberia. The latest complex includes a church and a health center. Convention proceedings will last from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day from Friday, Aug. 15, through Sunday, Aug. 24. Bishop Woolfolk said each church component will have at least a day of meetings.
